In July 2025, Machu Picchu is facing one of its most critical moments. Every day, thousands of tourists line up from the early hours of the morning to enter the Inca citadel, causing chaos, frustration, and a deteriorated visitor experience. This situation has raised alarms among tourism operators and local authorities, who are urgently demanding the implementation of a new Master Plan for tourism management.
One of the main points of controversy revolves around the in-person ticket sales. Although a technical debate on this mechanism was promised, the Ministry of Culture failed to present the corresponding report, once again postponing any resolution. Meanwhile, the daily visitor limit remains at 5,600 people during high season and 4,500 during low season, in hopes of preventing further damage to the heritage site.
On July 10, a new protocol is expected to be presented in Machu Picchu Pueblo. The goal is to improve organization, facilitate access for travelers, and most importantly, protect one of Peru’s most iconic treasures.
